Handcrafters House reviews
Excellent range of fabrics of great quality and variety. Plenty of packs ready cut, plus layer cakes. Classes available. Definitely worth the hour drive from Rockingham.

My first time visiting Handcrafters House today around midday and was quite impressed by the shop and the lovely man who served me. However whilst browsing the fabrics alongside other customers, I was taken aback when I heard and saw what was unfolding. A lady working there was loudly berating an elderly lady, almost every word of which was overheard by all nearby customers. The customer was first berated by this employee for not paying for something she had picked up and left at the front of the shop. When the customer pointed out that no one was at the counter, she stated loudly that “you need to pay for it at the back of the shop not at the front”. I watched from 20 feet away as the same lady continued her berating loudly in the back room at the lady’s insistence that she had put the item over the counter to be paid for. From what I could determine, the other lady had only put the item on a table, not on the counter itself, which seemed to be the reason for the vitriol of the employee who loudly berated the customer. I could only wonder what she would have done to a 90-year-old lady who forgot to pay for a 2.00 item. That lady, after leaving the shop, repeated how embarrassed she was that this employee had loudly berated her. I even heard this employee, in back, saying a few nasty words about the customer who had to come back into the store to pass her way out the front and shared what had happened. If the lady was not a repeat customer, I am not surprised. Customers definitely do not need to heard about the shoddy behavior of another customer and the shop. I would have expected the employee to apologize immediately for the misunderstanding. No such thing happened. The real kicker to this and the most embarrassing thing about this whole episode was that the woman holding the umbrella for the lady was her mother! I was totally taken aback at that as well. Not only was the employee disrespectful to her customer, she was disrespectful to her mother who accompanied her to the shop. I put what happened to my adaptability to new things in the human nature department, but the employee and the fact the shop owner even has a waiting list for the shop shows how little adaptability she has. The light might have assumed that virtue and adaptability widely shared in the human population. Today’s events and the actions of the shop employee and the lack of an apology or explanation from the owner says much about the kind of person who apparently owns this shop. I got no sense Abdullah hassle she is to her mother and found this whole thing abominable and embarrassing for this whole scenario to take place in front of children and other customers to be heard by all the customers. The customer looked familiar but I do not know if she is a local or visiting. Even more, I wondered if the employee would have acted this way if the customer had spoken up in her defense. I saw no one standing up to this outburst. I doubt I will be back. It is a shame this is happening in what should be a pleasant place to spend time. Quilting should be a joy for fabric shoppers.
