Cascades Female Factory Historic Site reviews
A moving place. The on site interpretation is fantastic and our guide for the day-Hugh-did a magnificent job bringing the history of the place to life. I visited on a weekday and it was ironic and quite bitter sweet that there is now a daycare centre adjoining the wall of the Factory nursery. A must visit if you are in Hobart.
Hauntingly beautiful place but please do yourself a favour and book the show. The insight and knowledge you'll get is far better than any self guided tour. The actress who plays the various roles is phenomenal
Very interesting place to visit. There isn't a lot left of the actual building but they have made a great demonstrating of what it would have looked like to have worked her. Poor women were treated very poorly as were most of those sent to Tasmania as a penal colony.

While there isn't much left of the original building, the demonstrations provide a great understanding of what it was like to work here. The mistreatment of women and prisoners in Tasmania is a dark part of history that should be explored.
